Why Smelly Men?

I’m James, the founder of Smelly Men.

This started with a bar of soap. A jiu jitsu training partner gave it to me as a thank you after I’d helped him out. It smelled incredible.

It made me realise how bad most men’s personal care actually is. Harsh chemicals, plastic packaging and synthetic fragrances that don’t smell great and often irritate skin.

Jiu jitsu sparring is a proper test. It’s intense, close contact, and if something works there, it works anywhere.

So I built something better.

A simple system using natural soap and deodorant that actually works.

FAQs

How long does your soap last?
Our whopping full size 160g soap bar will last about 4 weeks with normal use - assuming you shower once a day. If there's more than one of you fighting over it then it'll disappear a bit quicker!
How do I actually use a bar of soap?
Wet it and rub it between wet hands until it lathers. You need less than you'd think. Then work the lather over wet skin. Flannel, loofah, or straight off the bar: it's genuinely just preference.
Does natural deodorant actually work?
Yes — it just works differently to what you're used to. Sprays mask smell; antiperspirants block sweat glands with aluminium salts. Ours neutralises the bacteria that cause odour in the first place, so you stay fresh rather than dry. Combined with regular washing, that's enough to get most people through a full day.
Why not just use a spray or roll-on?
According to our customers our deodorant is a revelation. Many tell us is the first time they've found a product that really works. Clothes stay fresher too, since you're dealing with the cause of odour (bacteria) before it gets deep into fabrics. And no can or plastic going into landfill afterwards.
Will it irritate my skin?
It shouldn't. No aluminium, no SLS, no synthetic fragrance, just ingredients chosen to be gentle. If you're switching from an antiperspirant, give your skin a week or two to settle back into its normal rhythm. That's adjustment, not a reaction.
I've never used natural deodorant before, how do I apply it?
Clean, dry skin, ideally just after washing. Push the stick up from the base until a small amount clears the tube, warm it briefly against your skin, then apply sparingly. Less goes further than you'd expect.
What about the packaging?
Almost everything's cardboard, FSC-approved or recycled. Beard oil and shave serum are the exception — glass with a bamboo cap, since that's what actually keeps the oil stable. No aerosols, no unnecessary plastic.
What if it's just not for me?
Get in touch. If something's genuinely gone wrong, perhaps it didn't agree with your skin, or it just didn't do what it should, we'd rather sort it than have you disappear and never order again.
