If you're switching from antiperspirant, give the deodorant a week or two to settle in. The shampoo bar can feel different for the first few washes too - no silicone coating, so hair behaves differently until it adjusts.

Shampoo bar on wet hair - lather, massage, rinse. Soap on body, then rinse. Dry properly, especially underarms. Deodorant: apply a small amount to clean, dry skin.
